We play punk rock.

Awful Gato started 2021 as Antti had bought a guitar and revoked his dream of playing in a band, he asked his friends if they'd be interested in playing together. Joonas immedietly said yes and so Antti and Joonas started playing together without neither having any previous experience in playing in a band. Later they were joined by their friend Pyry in bass. Rehersals in the beginning were not too well planned, and a lot of time was spent in aimless jamming and noodling. Only one cover was played, which was I wanna be your dog by The Stooges. Also the bands musical direction was not in any way clear, we kind of wanted to just to play and see what comes of it. This approach lead to lot of musical nonsense, haha!

At some point the realization of how much fun it is to play short punk songs led to well..playing short punk songs, though keeping the original idea of being open to whatever sort of riffs or songs that might find their way in to the bands catalogue. When Awful Gato had managed to write enough song for an short EP, Santeri who had been interested in jamming with the band for a while, joined the band. Santeri was at this point already an experienced guitar player and added touch of musicianship to songs.

At this point Pyry had been missig practices for a while because of being busy with work. And as the band started to record the EP, Pyry ended up quitting the band in friendly terms. Bass on the Death Pint Ep ended up being played by Simo, a bandmate of Santeri in Spurtt (Great band!). The EP came out in the fall of 2023, in all the major digital streaming platforms. For now the band has continued to rehearse as a trio while being in look out for a new bass player.
